The InSalin Salt Pipe inhaler is a mobile version of the Salin Plus Salt Therapy device. Unlike traditional salt pipes, the InSalin Salt Pipe consistently releases sub 5 micron dry salt particles (ideal size) when inhaled and does not require to be refilled ever.

The salt granules are prepared in such a way, that when inhalation occurs it causes tiny particles to be released from the rapid collision effect.

Laboratory tests showed that after 1-hour use per day for 2 years, the device was still working effectively, by emitting microscopic salt particles when inhalation occurred. The sleek design with a window into salt chamber enables the user to watch the salt react when inhalation occurs. 

We recommend you use your device every night all year round and change your salt cartridge every 4 months. The effectiveness decreases over time and after 6 months has no therapeutic benefit.

Based on using the device every night, it is recommended to change the cartridge every 4 to 6 months. The cartridge may look the same after this period of time, as it will still be packed with salt, although you would typically expect the back to have collected a lot of dust, which it would have removed from the air during this time.

As the device is designed to break off microscopic particles of salt off the larger crystals, effectively after a 4 to 6 month period, it will have completed this process, and therefore the number of particles it is emitting into the air will have dramatically reduced, hence you will no longer be receiving the therapeutic effect. While the cartridge will be packed with large salt crystals, these are too large to inhale.

The 4 to 6 month period is a recommended guide only. If you suffer from a seasonal condition, such as hayfever, you may opt to replace more frequently during the hayfever season than you would in winter.

The Salin Plus Salt Cartridge should be replaced every 4 months, based on nightly use. After 6 months of use it is unusable. This is due to the fact that after this period of time, while the cartridge is still full of rock salt, it is no longer dispersing the tiny salt particles that are required for inhalation and provide the therapeutic affect.

Salin Plus should not be stored or used in a damp or high humidity environment, if the filter is exposed to moisture, it will damage the salt crystals and most likely the filter will need to be replaced. To overcome this issue, we recommend the use of a dehumidifier to bring the humidity levels down to the ideal level of 50% relative humidity. Also avoid areas with oily aerosols such as the kitchen.

When not in use, store the device in its original packaging in a cool and dry place. However, it is recommended to use Salin Plus all year round to maintain your well-being.

The only maintenance requirement for your Salin Plus device is to remember to replace the filter after 4 months use, after this period, the filter begins to lose its effectiveness as fewer salt crystals are dispersed into the air to provide the therapeutic effect and the filter will also begin to become blocked with dust and other airborne pollutants that it has removed from the air.

The bottom line is that using air conditioners or leaving the window/door open will affect the usefulness of your Salin Plus device, as the salt particles will be extracted from the room and poor air quality will continue to flow in, making it more difficult for your Salin device to control the air quality. However, as long as the device is located close to your head (i.e. facing you on your bed side locker less than 1 meter away), then you will still benefit from it. If you have a strong preference to leave the door or window open then you should continue to do so.

You can use Salin Plus in humid environments so long as your room is well insulated from the moisture outside. Avoid leaving your windows open when the humidity levels are high. Use a hygrometer to measure the relative Humidity level, try to keep it around 50 to 60%.

We do not recommend using Salin Plus in a damp room, as the salt filter absorbs the moisture in the air. You would be amazed how much moisture is in the air when the room is damp. If the salt crystals absorb this moisture, they act like a sponge and ultimately can leak the water it has absorbed. The salt crystals are much more effective when dry.

We have seen this issue in around 1% of cases, typically in countries where it can get very humid at certain times of the year. It comes down  to the level of moisture  in your home, which will vary depending on the structure of the home, and type of ventilation and air conditioning used.

If your home uses an evaporative air conditioner which emits moisture into the air that can cause moisture issues for the Salin Plus filter, whereas other types of air conditioners help to dry out the room and therefore help reduce the risk of any moisture issues.

The best way to protect your filter, is to remove the moisture from the air, and the best way to do this is with a dehumidifier. There are many different brands on the market to chose from. They are popular as they help reduce dust mite activity and mold spores which also effect respiratory conditions and no one likes a damp home.

In most cases, it will be fine to use the Salin Plus device in a room heated by an oil heater. Most oil heaters do not actually burn oil, as they use electricity to create the heat and the oil as a heat reservoir or buffer.

If you are not 100% about your oil heater and whether it does burn oil (and emit oily aerosols that could be absorbed by the salt in your Salin Plus device), please check with the heater manufacturer.

No. As it is a dry salt, there is no corrosive effect. The device has been on the market in Europe for 15 years, with no reported cases.
